Soulwax

Soulwax, headed by David and Stephen Dewaele, is an rock, electronic and alternative band hailing from Gent, Belgium.Formed in the mid-90's as a rock-band, as can be heard on their debut album, 1996's "Leave the story untold", showing them mold elements of hardrock, grunge and minor touches of electronica into their classic rock music.1999's "Much against everyone's advice" broadens up their spectrum musically, produce-wise and as songwriters. Although the album is not quite well known outside of Belgium, it's often considered their strongest release to date. Electronica-elements blend in much better in their still mainly rock-sound.One of it's singles: "Too many DJ's" complains about the simplicity of being a diskjockey, the cheap success it often brings without much added artistic value. As a joke/sideproject the Dewaele-brothers started doing some DJ-sets under different monnikers ("The flying Dewaele brothers", "The fucking Dewaele brothers" or "2 Many DJ's") gaining them a lot of popularity with their crazy mixes and very varied sets. (And ironically giving them the cheap success as hinted at by their own song !)They kept the "2 Many DJ's" after that and released several "bastard pop" albums (under the name of "Hang all DJ's part 1-7").20005's "Any minute now" and "Nite versions" saw Soulwax evolve further into Dance/electronica terrain. Althoug probably less "cutting edge", thanks also to their "2 Many DJ's" alter ego, these albums gained much more interntional interest... « hide
